Root Before Fruit

Which side of the tree do you want to be?

In our office, we ask this question a lot: Which side of the tree do you want to be?

When you look at a tree where one side is alive, vibrant, green, and strong — and the other side is dry, brittle, and struggling — the answer is obvious.

You want to be the side that is alive, resilient, adaptable, full of energy, and able to weather the storm.

But here’s the deeper question: What determines which side of the tree you become?

The answer is found beneath the surface. Because the side of the tree you want to be above the ground is determined by the side of the tree you don’t see below the ground.

In other words, we’re talking about the root system.

You can’t have the fruit without the root. The fruit is what everyone sees. The root is what makes it possible.

People see your energy, your vitality, and your ability to move, function, adapt, and show up for life. But what they don’t see is the system underneath that supports it all.

That’s why we say: Root before fruit.

If you want better fruit, you have to build stronger roots.

A tree cannot express vibrant life above the ground if what supports it below the ground is weak. It may still be standing. It may still look like a tree. But it will not express the strength, health, and fullness it was designed to have.

Because a tree may survive without truly serving.

It may have just enough life to hang on, just enough strength to stay standing, just enough reserve to get by. But that is different from a tree that is strong enough to serve.

A healthy tree does more than survive. It gives shade. It provides beauty. It bears fruit. It becomes a blessing to what is around it.

Both trees may be alive. But only one is truly expressing fullness of life.

The same is true for people.

The goal is not merely to survive. The goal is to become strong enough to serve: to show up, to work well and weather storms, to give, to love well, to live well… and to live life alive.

But that kind of life does not happen by accident.

If you want a healthier, more vibrant tree, you have to care for the system that makes that kind of life possible.

That begins with good lifestyle choices: how you move, how you eat, how you sleep, how you handle stress, and how you live.

But here is the key: All of it is lived through your nervous system.

You do not move, digest, sleep, or adapt to stress apart from your nervous system. You live your life through your nervous system.

That is why a healthy spine and nervous system are not just part of the conversation — they are central to it.

Because when your nervous system is not functioning well, everything suffers. And when it is functioning at its best, everything works better.

That is why, in our office, we care so much about helping people make healthier choices while also helping them maintain a healthy spine and nervous system.

Because if you want the vibrant side of the tree, you must build the system that makes vibrant life possible.

Because the side of the tree you want to be is determined by the side you do not see.

Root before fruit.
