The Hero and the Villain

If your personal journey of health and well-being were a story that lasted 100 healthy years or more, who would be the hero?

And if that story became one of decline, limitation, and deterioration by age 60 or 70, who would be the villain?

Understanding the hero and the villain can help you make better choices so that you and your loved ones can live an active, healthy life and express your full potential throughout your lifetime.

The Hero

The hero of this story is your Innate Intelligence.

Your body has within it an Innate Intelligence that, from the moment of conception, has been working to organize, regulate, adapt, heal, and keep you functioning at your best.

From the moment you were conceived, one cell grew into trillions of organized, specialized cells without conscious thought, outside instruction, medication, or medical direction.

Your brain and spinal cord make up the central command system of your body, which is why they are protected by the skull and spine. Your heart is located in the center of your chest, positioned to distribute oxygen and nutrients and remove waste products efficiently.

Your Innate Intelligence knew how to grow, develop, adapt, and function long before you ever had to think about it consciously. It coordinates digestion, healing, muscle contraction, adaptation to your environment, and communication with every cell, tissue, and organ of your body through your nervous system.

As long as your Innate Intelligence can express itself freely, you have a greater opportunity to express your full potential for eighty, ninety, one hundred years and beyond.

The Villain

The villain in this story is anything that interferes with the expression of your Innate Intelligence.

Interference disrupts the body’s ability to communicate, regulate, adapt, and heal. This interference can come in many forms — nerve interference, lifestyle interference, and environmental interference.

One of the most important forms of nerve interference is called a vertebral subluxation. A subluxation is a problem in the spine and nervous system that interferes with the clear communication between your brain and body. When that communication is disrupted, the body may not function, adapt, or heal as well as it was designed to.

Nerve interference can begin very early in life. The birth process is one of the first major physical stresses a baby experiences, and it can affect the spine and nervous system — especially the upper neck. When spinal stress creates interference, it may disrupt the clarity of communication between the brain and body. In some babies, this may show up early through signs such as colic, digestive issues, difficulty nursing, constipation, diarrhea, allergies, or disrupted sleep. In others, the body may compensate for years before obvious symptoms appear.

Nerve interference can also occur during childhood through falls, sports injuries, accidents, poor posture, and other physical stresses. Later in life, car accidents, falls, significant weight changes, repetitive stress, and emotional stressors can also contribute to interference in the spine and nervous system.

Lifestyle interference may include poor nutrition, poor posture, lack of movement, excess sugar or caffeine, unmanaged stress, poor sleep, medication or drug use, and other habits that place extra demand on the body.

Environmental interference can also affect the health of your nervous system. These stressors may come from the air we breathe, the food we eat, the water we drink, chemicals in our environment, accidents, injuries, or natural disasters. While we cannot control every exposure in the world around us, we can strengthen the body’s ability to adapt by reducing unnecessary stressors, making healthier lifestyle choices, and keeping the nervous system functioning as clearly as possible.

Interference is the villain of this story — your story — because it can rob the body and mind of the ability to function, adapt, heal, and express their full potential.

Our chiropractic office is here to help nurture the hero and reduce the impact of the villain by helping your nervous system function with greater clarity and less interference.

By nurturing your Innate Intelligence and supporting your body’s ability to communicate, regulate, adapt, and heal, you and your loved ones can enjoy a more active, healthy, and full life — your ideal 100 Year Lifestyle.
