Health and Life Expectancy Comparison by Country

January 29, 2020 by admin Leave a Comment

When it comes to health and longevity, it’s valuable to compare countries and systems so that you can make choices for your family on how you want to live.

Health System Tracker 2016 says that Japan has the greatest life expectancy at 84.1 years and the United States has one of the lowest at 78.6 years. Given the data, a clear distinction in health exists between the US and other comparable countries and it is time to start noticing and reverse the trend!

The American Way

In 1980, the US life expectancy was similar to other comparable countries. So what has happened since then? According to Health System Tracker, contributing factors to life expectancy include “quality of care, access to preventive health services, and lifestyle, diet, violence, and accidents.” Prior to 1980, all of these factors were different. And most importantly, there have been radical policy changes that are not working and are contributing to the decline.

The United States now falls extremely short in nearly all aspects of health and wellness. Consider the following:

  • “The US has the very highest infant mortality rate of all industrialized countries, with more American children dying at birth than in any other comparable nation, those who survive develop at least one chronic illness.”
  • The US administers 22 vaccine doses within the FIRST YEAR OF LIFE. “No other developed country administers as many vaccine doses in the first two years of life.”
  • “The US has the lowest life expectancy at birth among comparable countries.”
  • According to the CDC, life expectancy is considered to have dropped significantly due to a rise in deaths among younger age groups, with drug overdoses as a leading cause, representing a 36% increased rate since 2014!
  • The US autism rate is 1 in 59, this is a 15% increase from the previous two years (1 in 68, an already unacceptable number)
  • Inadequate health insurance coverage, described by International Healthcare System Profiles as, “fragmented,” “wide gaps in rates,” with 67.2% paying for private coverage
  • In 1983, the vaccine schedule included 24 doses of 7 vaccines by the age of 18. Today, that number has nearly tripled to 69 doses of 16 vaccines by age 18.
  • Pharmaceutical companies have spent hundreds of billions of dollars advertising directly to consumers since the 1980s

Is it any wonder why we have a low life expectancy, overwhelming rates of chronic disease, and consistently rising rates of childhood neurological diseases such as autism and ADHD? We are injecting high doses of neurotoxins into our children starting on the first day of life. The United States is one of the only countries instantly delivering hepatitis B vaccines to newborns in moms who do not even carry the disease. In fact, according to the Children’s Health Defense, 99.9% percent of women test negative for hepatitis B.

“We know that how we live now will impact how we age!”

The Japanese Way

Let’s look at Japan, who is a comparable country to the United States, yet has the greatest life expectancy:

  • In 1994, Japan began to steer away from mandatory vaccination when they recognized an increase in injuries, including a ban on MMR after a 2,000x increase in injury rates was seen over a 4 year period.

The 100 Year Lifestyle by Eric Plasker in Japanese
  • Currently offer recommended “routine” vaccines and “voluntary” vaccines, which must be paid out of pocket. There is no mandatory requirement for vaccination to enter pre-school or elementary school.
  • Least vaccinated children of any developed country
  • Considered to have the healthiest children and longest life expectancy in the world
  • Does not administer hepatitis B vaccine (unless mother tests positive), Tdap, or flu shots during pregnancy or to infants 6-months-old or younger
  • Universal healthcare coverage with preventive care such as screenings, health education, and counseling as covered costs

It is common to think that aging is a dreadful process, however, we know that how we live now will impact how we age, and we can choose how we want to get there. This might be hard to believe given that nursing homes and long-term care facilities are now the norm and are popping up on every corner. According to Time Magazine, “47% of men and 58% of women who are retirement age or older will experience a need for long-term care in the future.” In addition, there are 4,000 hospice care agencies which are a “$20 billion business that served 1.4 million Medicare patients in 2015.”

So how do we avoid many of the traditional maladies of growing old? Live a quality life starting today and take care of your body, mind and by keeping your brain, spine and nervous system functioning at full capacity. Begin to question the outside-in approaches such as vaccines and drugs embrace a more inside out health philosophy. More people in Japan are flourishing with many of the 100 Year Lifestyle principles as a part of their culture.

It’s time for a new approach for you and your family. Find a provider near you.

A Dimmer Switch Life

October 22, 2019 by admin Leave a Comment

Dimmer Switch

“Most people die at 60, but are buried at 90.”

I ran across this quote from late fitness expert Jack LaLanne. It resonated with me because it’s such a true statement. People are living longer lives, but in their latter decades, they’re not truly living. Instead, they fall into what I call a “dimmer switch life” — taking years to slowly fade into their graves. It shouldn’t be this way. It doesn’t have to be this way. [Read more…] about A Dimmer Switch Life

How Long Do You Plan to Live?

December 4, 2018 by admin Leave a Comment

One of the fastest growing segments of the population today is centenarians, or 100-year old people. In 1980, there were approximately 17,000 people over the age of 100. Today there are approximately 80,000 people who have reached this milestone. The US Census Bureau estimates that by the time the baby boom generation reaches this landmark age, there will be more than 4.2 million centenarians in the US.

This trend holds true for other industrialized nations including Australia, Canada, and those in Europe. Many of us have noticed this trend first hand by having to cope with the challenges of our aging parents. Unfortunately, many elderly people are unprepared for their extended life.

Life Expectancy

When today’s centenarians were born in 1905, the life expectancy for a newborn was approximately 50 years. Yet many have outlived their life expectancy by another half-century. If these people knew they were going to live this long, do you think many of them would have made better health choices along the way?

We are getting the advanced notice that our parents and grandparents never received. What will you do with this information? Hopefully you will choose to make your health a priority now instead of waiting until it deteriorates to choose a healthy lifestyle. The truth is that we cannot control how long we are going to live.

Your Choices Matter

We can, however, control our health choices. As people age, quality of life choices take on a higher priority. Values turn more toward the physical and physiological standard of living rather than the material standard of living. After all, what good is a nice car if your back hurts too much to sit in the seat and enjoy it? Who cares what your carpet looks like if you don’t have the energy to entertain? Does it matter how much jewelry you have if you are too sick to go out on the town?

Many people spend the first 50 years of their lives ignoring their health while they accumulate wealth, only to spend the next 50 years losing their wealth to buy back their health. Knowing that your longevity potential is 100 years gives you an opportunity to place your health at the top of your value scale.

Every minute of every day we are faced with choices that contribute to our quality of life both now and in the future. We must choose between eating junk food and healthy food, being a couch potato and exercising, stressing out or looking at the bright side, getting regular chiropractic adjustments or living with the consequences of an unhealthy spine and nerve system.

Starting today, make health choices that ensure that each day will be your best, and encourage your family to do the same. After all, 100 years of healthy living is achieved one day at a time.

The 100 Year Old Woman Who Died at 82

December 4, 2018 by admin Leave a Comment

This is a story of a 100-year-old woman who died at 82.

When she was conceived, just like you, 23 chromosomes from her mother and 23 chromosomes from her father united to make her a unique human being. The innate potential to live an active, healthy, quality life to 100 years of age and beyond was there.

Unfortunately, she was injured during the birth process. Pulling and twisting on her neck and spine caused a vertebral subluxation, placing pressure on her spinal cord and nerves. Since there was no bruising that was visible on the outside of her body, the injury went unnoticed and the newborn went home from the hospital on time.

Underneath her skin, this injury caused a disruption of the nerve supply between the brain and the body and her internal communication signals became distorted. Her stomach became sensitive to foods, and her first year of life was filled with numerous colds and ear infections that her parents and the pediatrician considered “normal”. She was given multiple doses of antibiotics and her symptoms came and went. Over the course of this first year, her underlying spinal injury caused her bones to develop unevenly, her nerve supply to be compromised, and her innate healing capacity to be altered.

During her toddler years, she fell a lot through playing and exploring her environment. This repetitive trauma caused additional areas in her spine to become imbalanced, causing more pressure on her nerves. While they were not enough to cause her a “backache”, the pressure was enough to cause her body to function abnormally. After all, research shows that nerve root compression can exist without pain and mild pressure can reduce nerve transmission. Deterioration can begin within two weeks.

As a teenager, she began to experience hormonal changes in her body which for unexplainable reasons were causing difficult menstrual cycles and severe acne.

Her caregivers labeled her as anemic since she was prone to overall weakness and dizziness. Her parents didn’t even think about removing the pressure from the spine and restoring the normal nerve supply to her body. Instead, they were scared into giving their child monthly treatments used for birth control. This symptomatic treatment approach seemed to work for a while, but each time she went off the hormones, their daughter’s symptoms became worse.

Crossing into adulthood didn’t improve the situation. In her early 30s, she suffered several miscarriages, was diagnosed with clinical depression and began taking an anti-depressant. As her symptoms and conditions multiplied, so did her medications. Even more significant, the pressure on the nerves had been there—present since birth, compounded by a childhood of tumbles and falls, and provoked by stress through college and into her career—for decades of two weeks.

To make a long story short, what could have been a long healthy life ended as a shorter, sicker one. This pattern of treating symptoms rather than eliminating the cause continued throughout her lifetime. Her body could never get centered. Her spine and nervous system were never balanced. Rather than thriving and enjoying good health, her body deteriorated over time.

Unfortunately, the story gets worse. While she had spent considerable time and energy to develop relationships and raise a family, she was unable to appreciate her grandchildren or travel far from home in the last decade of her life. Her savings dwindled while the cost of her medications and treatments rose. She spent the last five years dying a painful, deteriorating death in a nursing home instead of experiencing the quality of life that her body’s Innate Potential could have provided.

She was 100 years old—but died at 82.

This woman’s story should not have started or ended like this. An immediate spinal examination after her birth and throughout her lifetime may have contributed to a much different life. Proper lifestyle choices along the way would have increased the chance of living fully until the very end.

How many two weeks will you wait? Whether your destiny is to live to 82 or 100 years and beyond, make them quality years and enjoy good health every day along the way with Chiropractic Lifestyle Care. Regardless of your age, Chiropractic Care will help you keep your spine and nerve system healthy and your body expressing its full potential both now and well after 82 years old.

Your Minimum is Not Your Maximum

December 4, 2018 by admin Leave a Comment

What is your minimum life expectancy? Your maximum? How about for your children? What will your quality of life be like along the way? These quick calculations and facts can be a real wake up call for you and your loved ones.

Calculate Your M-PYR™ [Pronounced “empire”]
M-PYR stands for Minimum Potential Years Remaining. It takes into account what you know about your personal family history and compares this to your current age to determine the minimum number of years that you have left.

Calculate Your M-PYR NOW:
1. What’s the age of your oldest grandparent? [living or deceased]? (any other relative’s age will work, as long as they’re related by blood) : ______
2. Your current age: ______
3. Subtract your age from your grandparent’s age to get your M-PYR [2-1]: ______

So what’s your M-PYR? If your oldest grandparent ever was 90, and you are currently 45, then you have an M-PYR of 45. This is your MINIMUM potential years remaining. If your oldest grandparent ever was 82 and you are 77, then your M-PYR is 5. If your oldest grandparent ever was 102 and you are 32, then you have an M-PYR of 70.

If your M-PYR is longer than you thought, look at your choices and evaluate their long term benefits to you. If you don’t do this, you may be setting yourself up for a sick and deteriorating future, even though you may feel fine today. If you are a procrastinator who is already suffering from an unhealthy lifestyle, a long M-PYR can be very motivating. After all, there’s only one thing worse than suffering, and that’s suffering for another 25, 50, or 75 years.

Committing to healthier lifestyle choices, including taking care of your spine and nervous system with chiropractic care, can ensure that your remaining years are good ones and not years of sickness, poverty, and loneliness. Healthy choices now will improve your life now and as you age.

If your M-PYR is short, than you will surely feel a sense of urgency to get your act together. Waiting for a heart attack to eat healthy and exercise is a bad idea. Waiting for a diagnosis of cancer to eat healthy, exercise, and strengthen your immune system is not a good idea.

Just because society is crisis motivated doesn’t mean that this is the way that you should be. I love seeing people who embrace chiropractic care and their ideal 100 Year Lifestyle, and regardless of their age, they feel younger and healthier than ever. But why wait for a crisis?

Look at family photos of your parents and grandparents. Do you like the way they have aged? Do you think that if they knew they were going to live as long as they are, or did, that they would have made different choices? You are getting the advance notice that they never received. What will you do with this information?

Your M-PYR is not your MAX-PYR™
Your M-PYR is not your MAX-PYR, or maximum potential years remaining. Who knows what your number could be? If you ate healthy, exercised, took care of your spine and nervous system, had good relationships and a sense of purpose, what would be the limits of your longevity?

New research in the Lancet found that more than 50% of babies can expect to live to 100. Some scientists even say that we can live to 1,000. I don’t know about that, but I do know that if you make healthy choices you are much more likely to enjoy a quality life for your entire lifetime.

Recently there was a gentleman whose M-PYR was -1. He had already outlived the oldest relative in his family, and he was really happy about it. He was healthy and functioning at a very high level. He had a great perspective on his life and he was very glad to be here.

Your M-PYR is not your MAX-PYR. Make healthy choices. Embrace Chiropractic Lifestyle Care, and you and your loved ones will enjoy the quality of life you deserve.

Do You Have an Ostrich in Your Family?

December 4, 2018 by admin Leave a Comment

Have you ever seen a picture of an ostrich with its head buried in the sand? This is one of the funniest scenes in nature, but an unfunny, accurate metaphor to describe individuals who have a crisis care mentality about their health. This means that they only take care of themselves when they are sick, diagnosed with a disease, or are in excruciating pain.

If you want to live an active, healthy long life, this ostrich mentality won’t get you there. Here are some signs that you or a loved one may be in a crisis with your head in the sand:
1. You take over the counter drugs on a monthly basis.
2. You have taken prescription drugs consistently for more than
three months.
3. You have altered your life due to a health concern.
4. You constantly try to pop your neck and back or are fidgety.
5. You cannot exercise without pain.
6. You take medication to offset the side effects of other.
medications.
7. You experience irregular sleep patterns.
8. You are susceptible to colds and the flu.
9. You often say things like, “I need to go to the doctor” or
“I need to take a pill.”
10. You have difficulty standing or sitting up straight.

Many seniors and centenarians are suffering the consequences of their “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it”, ostrich-like attitudes. We are getting the advance notice that our parents and grandparents never received so we can think differently about health and pull our heads out of the sand.

Embrace your Innate Potential.
Do you have a parent or grandparent that lived to be 70, 80, 90, or 100 years old? Whether you like it or not, this is your minimum innate genetic potential. Your children and grandchildren share your genes as well, so become excited about your longevity, and theirs, and make the lifestyle changes now to ensure your health and vitality for a lifetime.

Remove Interference.
Your mind and body will break down when there is interference in your nervous system. Just like a car accident will interfere with the flow of traffic, interference in your nervous system will cause “dis-ease” (“lack of ease”) in your body which can lead to pain, sickness, and even chronic disease. Sometimes you will have symptoms and sometimes you won’t. Don’t wait for the symptoms, the crisis, to remove this interference. That’s what an ostrich would do. Stay healthy by keeping this interference out of your life, your spine and your nervous system, regardless of how you feel.

It’s Time for an Intervention.
If you have an ostrich in your family, you can save their life and make a difference by intervening. Express your concern. Show them you care. Get help from others if you need it but don’t let them become a statistic and “just another person” who was killed or injured severely because they were in denial about the dangers to their health.

We are excited to be a part of your health care team. If you have an ostrich in your life, please send them to our office for an appointment. We would be honored to help them get their head out of the sand.
